Open Access Policy

Actualizaciones en Osteología is an open access journal, meaning that all published articles are freely available to all users. Articles may be read, downloaded, copied, distributed, printed, searched, or linked to without restrictions. This promotes the broader dissemination of scientific knowledge and facilitates access to information for the research community and the general public.

The journal uses the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike), which allows users to share and adapt the published material under certain conditions. Authors must be properly acknowledged in accordance with the terms of the license, and derivative works may only be used for non-commercial purposes.

The journal does not charge article processing charges (APCs).

 

Publication License and Copyright

Copyright of articles published in Actualizaciones en Osteología remains with the authors. Upon publication of a manuscript, authors retain their copyright and grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish, reproduce, distribute, and publicly communicate the article through its media and platforms, in print or digital format.

Published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). This license allows third parties to share and adapt the content, provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the original source, the material is not used for commercial purposes, and derivative works are distributed under the same license.

Publication of an article in the journal does not entail the transfer of copyright to Actualizaciones en Osteología or to the Asociación Argentina de Osteología y Metabolismo Mineral (AAOMM).

Authors may deposit and disseminate their works in accordance with the journal's Self-Archiving Policy and the terms established by the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.

 

Self-Archiving Policy

Authors may deposit pre-publication versions or accepted manuscripts of their works in institutional or personal repositories, provided that such deposit does not constitute formal publication in another scientific journal. Self-archived content must comply with the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Once an article has been published in Actualizaciones en Osteología, the published version may be deposited in institutional or personal repositories, provided that the original publication in the journal is clearly cited and the same license terms are maintained.

 

Originality and Prior Publication

Authors must guarantee that the manuscript is original and has not been previously published, in whole or in substantial part, in another scientific journal. The deposit of pre-publication versions or manuscripts in institutional or personal repositories, in accordance with the journal's Self-Archiving Policy, is not considered prior publication.

If the work has been partially disseminated, for example, as a conference abstract, authors must explicitly disclose this at the time of submission. Authors also undertake not to submit the same manuscript simultaneously to another journal while it is under review at Actualizaciones en Osteología.

 

Authorship and Contributions Policy

Actualizaciones en Osteología adheres to the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Authorship Criteria

To be considered an author of a manuscript, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

1. Make substantial contributions to the conception and design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
2. Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
3. Approve the final version to be published.
4. Be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of its content.

Contribution Statement (CRediT)

Upon submission, authors will be required to detail the individual contributions of each participant according to the CRediT taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). This information is intended to provide transparency regarding individual contributions and facilitate verification of compliance with the authorship criteria established by the ICMJE [download template].

Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet all the authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Such contributions include, but are not limited to:

• Limited technical, methodological, or statistical support
• Administrative or logistical assistance
• Language editing or proofreading
• Obtaining funding or institutional support
• General supervision of the research group without direct involvement in the study

These contributions should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section (see Author Guidelines), with the prior authorization of the individuals mentioned.

Author Responsibility

The proper attribution of authorship and the order of authors are the sole responsibility of the individuals submitting the manuscript. The journal may request clarification or modifications if inconsistencies with the established authorship criteria are identified.

 

Conflicts of Interest

Authors: Authors must disclose any conflict of interest that could influence the interpretation of the results, the writing of the article, or editorial decision-making. Conflicts of interest may be financial, personal, professional, or academic in nature and must be disclosed in the cover letter and in the manuscript. Editors and reviewers must also disclose any conflicts of interest when evaluating manuscripts.

External Reviewers: Reviewers must disclose any conflict of interest that could affect their objectivity, independence, or impartiality in the evaluation of manuscripts. Conflicts of interest may be financial, personal, professional, or academic in nature and may include, among others, recent collaborations, institutional affiliations, personal relationships, direct competition, or financial interests involving the authors or the content of the work.

In the event of an actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest, the reviewer must immediately inform the responsible editor and decline to participate in the review.

Reviewers must also maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript, refrain from using information obtained during the review process for their own benefit or that of third parties, and act in accordance with the principles of integrity, honesty, and academic responsibility.

 

Ethical Considerations

Actualizaciones en Osteología follows international ethical standards for the publication of research and adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Declaration of Helsinki. Authors must ensure that their studies comply with ethical standards approved by an institutional or regional research ethics committee. This includes obtaining written informed consent from participants in human studies or complying with applicable national regulations for animal research (CICUAL, CICUAE, ICLAS or applicable national regulations).

Research involving patient or participant data must strictly comply with confidentiality and informed consent requirements.

 

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Actualizaciones en Osteología recognizes the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing. In accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the use of such tools must be limited, transparent, and always remain under the responsibility of the authors.

AI tools may be used exclusively to:

• improve the clarity and wording of paragraphs previously prepared by the authors, and/or
• organize the structure of the information or manuscript.

AI tools may not be used to:

• generate original content that replaces the intellectual work of the authors;
• analyze or interpret data;
• draft scientific conclusions; or
• compile reference lists, given the high likelihood of generating inaccurate or nonexistent citations.

If AI tools have been used, authors must explicitly disclose this in a separate section before the reference list, specifying:

• the tool used;
• the purpose for which it was used; and
• the section(s) or part(s) of the manuscript in which it was applied.

AI tools cannot be considered authors or co-authors of manuscripts. Authors assume full responsibility for the content of the article, including its originality, accuracy, scientific integrity, and compliance with the journal's ethical standards.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in rejection of the manuscript or other appropriate editorial measures, in accordance with the journal's ethical policies.

 

Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism Prevention Policy

Actualizaciones en Osteología maintains a strict policy against plagiarism. All manuscripts will be screened using similarity-detection tools before being sent to reviewers.

Plagiarism is defined as the improper appropriation of ideas, data, text, figures, or results from others' or one's own previously published works without appropriate citation or academic justification.

If total or partial plagiarism is detected, including self-plagiarism or other forms of inappropriate reuse of content, the manuscript will be rejected immediately and the case will be handled in accordance with the journal's ethical policies and the procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and for appropriately citing all sources of information used.

 

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the process.

Manuscripts are initially evaluated by a journal editor and subsequently by at least two external reviewers selected from a dedicated database of professionals with recognized training and experience in the relevant subject area. Reviewers act independently of the journal's editorial team.

Description of the Review Process

Reviewers receive the manuscript together with an evaluation form. They are asked to disclose any potential conflicts of interest and to assess the different sections of the manuscript. They are also asked to evaluate the originality of the work, its contribution to the field, its methodological and scientific quality, and the clarity of its presentation.

Review reports constitute an essential input into editorial decision-making.

Reviewer Requirements

Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that could affect their impartiality. If a conflict of interest exists, the reviewer must decline the invitation to review.

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and may not be used or disseminated under any circumstances.

Review Time

The review process is expected to take between 30 and 60 days. Authors will receive notification through the editorial system of the corresponding decision (acceptance with or without revisions, or rejection).

The editorial decision is final and is not subject to appeal.

Additional Review Rounds

When the editorial decision requires revisions, the revised manuscript may undergo one or more additional rounds of review, at the discretion of the editorial team, to verify compliance with the reviewers' comments.

Editorial Decision-Making Policy

Editorial decisions are based exclusively on the scientific quality, relevance, and originality of manuscripts and are independent of commercial, institutional, or personal considerations. The final decision to accept or reject a manuscript rests with the journal's editorial team.

 

Complaints, Appeals and Claims

Authors may submit complaints or appeals concerning the editorial process or editorial decisions in writing to the editorial team. Appeals will be assessed by the editorial team, and an additional review may be requested when considered justified. Final decisions will be communicated to the authors in writing.

 

Corrections, Retractions and Expressions of Concern Policy

If significant errors, research misconduct, or ethical issues are identified after publication, the journal will follow the procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Where appropriate, corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern that are clearly identified and linked to the original article may be published.

 

Data Availability Policy

Authors are encouraged to provide a statement regarding the availability of the data, materials, and code used in their study. Where applicable, data should be made available through institutional or public repositories, or the conditions for access should be clearly stated, in accordance with good practices for scientific transparency and reproducibility.

 

Digital Preservation

The journal ensures the digital preservation of its content through the OJS platform and institutional backup mechanisms, with the aim of ensuring permanent access to published articles.
