METABOLISM OF FLUORINE

Abstract

This article reviews the metabolism of fluorine. Alter stating the concept of basal (or fasting) fluoride plasma levels, we review the metabolic fate of the element after its absorption and emphasize the importance of renal function in its excretion. The ability of bone mineral to incorporate fluoride and the effect of this incorporation on the mechanical performance of the tissue are reviewed.
